The company’s owner and Master Electrician, Colin Stretch, has been working with Solar energy for eight years starting in Great Britain. We feel that it is time for Virginians to start to benefit from the free energy that is all around us.
Is This Area a Good Place for Solar Power?
We have a perfect climate for solar electric panels (Photovoltaic panels PV). For example Williamsburg has on average 209 sunny days per year! Coupled with this, Dominion Power now has a Solar Buy Back program in operation. It is the time to act because, lets face it, nothing would be better than Dominion Power paying you for the electricity you collected using solar energy! For every Kilowatt of electricity that your panels produce, you will receive $0.15 from Dominion Power. There is also a program where the customer is allowed to use all of the power that they generate and then will receive credit for the difference, this system uses a Bi-Flow meter and is called Net Metering.

How Does One Tap Into This Free Electricity?
That is where C. Stretch Electrical comes into action! We will gladly come to your home or business and talk you through all of the options open to the customer.
Most people will need a building that is facing South or South-East or South-West. This is the only option in terms of direction, although, an East-West split is possible and will require more panels for the same return on investment as a South facing roof. The average family home can facilitate approximately 3000 to 5000 watts (3KW to 5KW) of electricity, making up to 5KW of electricity per hour, at peak on a summer’s day. With the Dominion scheme in place, that will generate revenue of around $0.75 per hour which soon adds up to a healthy pay back.
As a general rule, a 3-kilowatt-hour system will generate approximately 3,600 to 4,800 kwh per year; a 5-kwh system will produce 6,000 to 8,000 kwh per year; and a 10-kwh system will produce 12,000 to 16,000 kwh per year.

For customers with out-buildings or spare land, it is possible to go all the way to 3000KW or 3 megawatts. Then you are looking at $2250.00 per hour at peak!
Does your home or out-buildings not match what is needed for productive solar power? No problem! Solar panels do not require a building roof for mounting. We can use what is called a Ground Mount. A Ground Mount is more typical of the larger systems that are often seen in fields and deserts etc.
So What Does Solar Energy Cost?
Installation on a typical roof runs between $1.75-2.75 per watt depending on what access equipment is required, for instance, a scaffold or a boom lift. The next cost to take into consideration is the panels. Panels cost between $2.50-4.00 per watt depending on which manufacturer the customer chooses. There are many to choose from, including those manufactured right here in the USA!!
Solar power is an up and coming source of energy. The incentives are currently the best ever seen in the USA and are not going to last forever. Seize the initiative and be one of the first to take advantage of what is available.
